So, after purging nearly everything in my beauty bag, today was the shopping day to refill it all. I waited for today because most of the specials started today to end in three weeks time. Lucky timing I guess, but I’m not about to complain. I managed to get quite the haul and I’m quite proud of it, even if the amount I spent was mind-boggling. Everything that is here was bought from the drug-store/chemist/pharmacy. I don’t honestly deal in name brands so much, mainly from a lack of funds, but mostly because I think these products do a great job anyway. So, here is what I managed to get…
Foundations and Concealer
I got Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation in Sand Beige, Rimmel Match Perfection Cream Gel Foundation in Soft Beige, Rimmel Concealer in Golden Beige, another compact of Rimmel StayMatte Pressed Powder in Sandstorm and Essence All About Matt! translucent setting powder.
This group may lead you to think that I am a fan of Rimmel, but that isn’t strictly speaking true. They are the flavour of the moment that provides the best product, for the best price, for me. As I need to buy stuff, I find what I like and then try to stay in the same product line so that everything will (hopefully) match up colour wise and it’s worked so far.
I spent my biggest chunk of cash here because I firmly believe that a lot can be skimped on, but not the foundations of your make up. If you skimp here, all you’re asking for is breakouts and infections and runny make-up galore. Don’t do it, just spend a bit of cash and save yourself a world of trouble later on.
I’ll be honest, I’m not lipstick’s biggest fan. It rubs off if not done properly, you leave it on everything you kiss and I feel weird with something on my lips. That said, it is necessary in everyday make-up wear to complete a look.
Wandering through, I found a few Rimmel lipsticks that were half price and two caught my eye. The first is the mandatory red lipstick that any girl worth her evening out should own. The other is a muted purple that I plan to replace the Eddie Funkhouser that’s running out. What I don’t mind wearing however is a shiny or tinted lip balm. My lips get really dry really quickly so the lip balm is the way to go. The one I got today is cherry flavoured…
So, eye-shadows were what survived the most, although they were the majority. I didn’t find that man I liked so I decided to pick two compact quattros and give them a shot. They are both cool colours, but they match quite a few of the clothes that I have. Usually I don’t like buying multiples, if something does wrong then all the colours can be ruined. However, if these turn out okay, I may warm to them in future. Anyway, I like the colours…
Other eye products
This was another section that was culled quite viciously the other day and now has a whole range of replacements. The first thing to be buffed was my eye-liner. I got Essence Twin liquid Eye-liner pen, Passion lip and eye pencils, Essence retractable eye-liner pen and a Disco eyebrow pencil. Except for the one I’m going to use as a highlight, they are all black. I have really short eyelashes so eye-liner fills in what I’m missing. Also, it makes eyes look sexy.
I also added Rimmel Scandalous Eyes mascara and Passion Maxx mascara. I chose them because they both boast adding volume to eyelashes and mascara is often replaced, so why spend big money on it?
I’ve also restocked and added to my make-up backstage crew, although not nearly as much as I would like. The range was not great where I sent so I decided to just get an essential and then look around as I went.
I didn’t get wedges again, mostly because they don’t work for me, at least not the way they are supposed to. I prefer using my fingers anyway. The wipes are because I struggle to remove eye make-up and prefer to do that after the first wash of my face before I launch into the skincare routine. Anyway, this will always need more stuff so onto the next section.
I love doing my nails and this was a restock of all the stuff I needed. I discovered though that I have a slight problem. As much as I love fun nail varnishes, I struggle to buy them. Given the chance I will wear lumo nail varnish, but I feel silly buying it in a store. Dunno what’s going on there, but yes. The orange sticks were needed for at home manicure touch ups and the gloves are because my other gloves have worn through.
All of this was added to my other make-up so here is what the collection looks like currently. It’s not much, but it will cover anything that needs to be covered. What I was looking for was a make-up kit that would serve me, no matter what kind of even I was going to attend, and that is what this has become. With that’s in here, I could go from day ware, to a night club, to a wedding and back and never be without. I want to collect more, but until I have a stable address, I think I’m going to hold myself back from my collectors complex.
What does your make-up collection look like? What can and can’t you live without?
